How many wine makers do we have here?

My fig wine is in it's last stage. I can't wait to taste the results.

Let us know how it turned out . Like to have a taste of your fig wine.

I surely will. I am so hoping that it turns out ok . It didn't start out looking too good. It was kinda "soupy" but I was told that it's suppose to look soupy. I blended the figs and someone told me that I shouldn't have and that I should have just let it set it the straining bag and get the juices that way. But then some people said that they did use a blender to chop the figs. Who knows.

I will keep you all posted.

I still have 11 gallons of figs in the freezer, so I can always try again.

Oooooooooo. You got a lot!!! :drool

I sampled my wine from the recipe that I saw the 2 ladies on You Tube making. It's ok. The alcohol volume was only 5%. I only made 1 gallon. The other 4 gallons are in my carboy fermenting. I think that ABV is higher than 5%. It's more of a weak wine cooler.

That really sounds fine to me. I not much of an alcohol drinker at all. Do you guys ever run across formulas for something that is more of a "fermented drink" rather than something with alcohol. I don't know much at all about it but I suppose anything that ferments very long at all will develope alcohol, huh? lol Can you tell I don't know anything about it? LOL The pineapple does sound good though!

Thanks for the info. I look forward to learning from you guys. Speaking of fermentation, do any of you feed your chickens fermented feed? I do and it is a really great thing to implement into your chicken keeping program.

Yea, it's ok but I prefer a stronger drink . It helps me sleep at night. lol You will get your alcohol content from the good ole yeast and sugar. You can add or leave out as much or as less as you need. I like to shoot for at least 15% alcohol volume.

I tried FF chicken feed but I have too many chickens and it's too much work. Not worth it for me.

With higher alcohol wines you also have the option of adding sparkling water in the summer to make spritzers - very refreshing!

Don't give up on the fig wine - sometimes it's a matter of wait-and-see. Wines can do extraordinary things over time. Good luck!

I know what you mean about waiting and seeing. I"m keeping my fingers crossed on the fig wine. This will be a first for me, so I'm being patient.:)

Found this seriously thinking about starting my wine making here, what do you guys think???

Old Fashioned Wine Recipes
One of the most popular old fashioned wine recipes, and one that you will definitely want to add to your collection. It is called cucumber wine. This wine is simple and fresh and great on a hot summer day. You will need 4 pounds cucumbers (preferable home grown), 3 campden tablets, 2 oranges, 2 lemons, 7 cups sugar, pectic enzyme, nutrients, 1 package of wine yeast, and water.
First you want to wash the cucumbers leaving the skin on, and then chop them up and leave them in a primary fermentor. Now you want to wash the oranges and lemons and slice them thinly then add to the cucumbers which you can pick from your own organic garden or buy from the store. Now stir in the sugar and nutrients, pour 16 cups boiling water over mixture, stir, let cool, add pectic enzyme, and leave for about a week until the frothing stops.
Strain the mixture and then siphon into a secondary fermentor and attach an airlock. If you want to get a dry wine out of these types of old fashioned wine recipes you want to place them in a wine rack for three weeks up to three months or a year and then bottle. On the other hand if you are looking for a sweet wine you will want to rack at three weeks and add ½ cup corn syrup dissolved into 1 cup of wine

YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumbsup

That sounds delicious!!! Oh, please try it and let us know. I would like to try it if it tastes good. I think you should go for it.

I checked on my 21 day wine last night and it has made a drastic change over the course of 24 hours. The alcohol content is potent! WHEW! Who knew that it would be so :drool

Kroger's store has grapes on sale for $0.79 a lb. I can't pass that up. I think I will get about 20 lbs and freeze them.
