My new chicks should be arriving today. I read that you are supposed to add sugar to the water at first. I can't remember where I saw that... how much sugar do I add ?

I don't put sugar in the water. It can constipate them......I would get some vit & electrolyes...

Sugar water can be provided for a few hours with shipped chicks to help give them a boost of energy from their travels. One tsp. dissolved in a chick waterer will be plenty. Watch them to make sure they are able to drink and then provide lots of fresh water & feed sometimes helps if they get pasty butt from no water intake and stress from shipping.

I've never done sugar water (except for a weak chick), but if you do it's 1tsp in the small quart waterer. I would only do it for their first day, after that plain water.

Even better is to add organic ACV to their water, mine get it as soon as they arrive/hatch and every time from then on.
