Can anyone tell me what the physical characteristics are of a Spaulding peafowl vs. India Blue? I read that a Spaulding will have yellow on its face. Will all Spauldings show the yellow? What other color distinctions are there between Spaulding and IB?

I think Spaldings have different crest shapes. The pictures of ones that I have seen have a skinny shoot of feathers coming up from their heads.
Here is a picture from google.

There crest feathers look more spread out to me. Spaldings also look smaller and slimmer to me. I have not owned either one recently though.

There are many different types of spaulding ... or spalding.
They are distinguished for example with their percentage of green blood.
The more they have green blood the more they look like the green peacock (Pavo muticus) ... the more their face are yellow!
Today, a lot of spalding comes from spaldings ... they have never met Pavo muticus!
They have a wild look ... long neck .... long legs ... they are more elegant.:love
For me the spaldings start to be interesting from 50% porcentage ... when we can count the feathers in their neck ... we distinguish each feathers.
Spalding are smarter than Indian Blue peacocks (all color and pattern :lau).
If the percentage is high they can not stand the cold ... their toes can freeze!
They are less noisy ... the sound is more low.

Spalding attitude ... !

If we want to be rigorous .... this is a spalding ... this stain on the wing comes from a green blood influence in his descendants. So it is classified in the spaldings. Many people will not even have saw this detail!

To add to Dany's opinion you can add the triangular head, longer neck and legs and beak, thinner and leaner body, flightiness, darker green in the neck, and less friendly as the percentage goes up. And the trill of their call is a dead giveaway too.

I may just get a DNA testing. I see that you mentioned that in an earlier post. Can you tell me where to go for that testing and what it involves?

These green blue feathers does not exist on the pure blue peacock! This is the sign of the influence of blood of the green peacock.

I use AnimalGenetics but IQBirdTesting is only $12. although they get paid before you get the cards, Animal Genetics sends the cards and they bill you after you send the cards back to them. You can send eggshell, feather, or blood for testing. We simply trim a talon to get a small drop of blood that you smear on the card along with the ID of the bird and your name. You can see the results of the test within a couple of days of them getting the cards, sometimes on the next day.

Spaldings will vary depending on what genes they inherit from the Indian Blue and the Green Java. If you are comparing your bird with the Java, some key characteristics are the difference in physique(Greens being leaner looking than Indians), and differed color patterns. Many spaldings could end up looking nearly just like an IB, but one big difference is what color may be on the wings. If there are blue and green feathers on the shoulder, you can tell that it is a spalding.
