how to keep ducks out of your swimming pool

We will probably go with a 3 foot fence. Something we can easily step over but the ducks cannot.

We decided to bite the bullet and go ahead and get our ducklings. We have 2 Rouens, they are about 1 week old. They are little poop machines but I am in love already. We will likely add a third duck to this pair if al goes well with these two.

We are brooding them in our enclosed shower with bed pads on the floor ( water proof and absorbant), that I simply change out one or twice a day. So far they are doing great, and have me wrapped around their little webbed toes.

We have a pen to move them to once they are feathered, with the intention of free ranging during the day and penning at night once they are a good size. Fingers crossed about the pool!

That all sounds so awesome!!!! Pics please, of the new babies and the shower area. I'm intrigued about that.

P.S. If you're anything like the rest of us, you will absolutely be getting another duckling(s) so you might as well get it/them now so you can get all the pooping machines raised at the same time. ;)

Photos of my two Roens and the shower set up. The bed pads make clean up a breeze, although I still have to change them 2-3 times a day. The water container at least minimizes mess. So far it seems to be a good solution...will switch to a bigger container such as a cool whip tub as they get bigger.

Great idea all round. They look so tiny in that shower so be sure to post pics in another couple weeks so we can see how much space they take up then..

@chickenchick200 Welcome to BYC

Well they are one day short of 4 weeks and we moved them out into their duck coop.

This is where we will keep them full time until they are big enough to free range safely in the day, and then it will just be their evening pen. We will be adding a run onto this area by the weekend to give them a bit more space. For now they get a weekly dip in the kiddie pool, but eventually they will have a large fenced yard to free range n the day with pond to swim in ( hopefully we can fence them out of the pool).

The shower was a great brooder...but MAN did two little ducks make a mess!

I, and they, are happy to be out of the house! One of our little ones is just starting to quack as of today, so I can say that at least one of the two is a girl!:)

The chicken in the pen is a recent pullet addition. She is rooming with the ducks temporarily until I can move her in with the other chickens. She's just too small to go in with my big girls yet, but seems unfazed by her duck room mates.

Hello, How did you make out with keeping the ducks in their own isolated "pool" or pond? I have an in-ground swimming pool and am thinking of getting ducks myself but worry about how to keep them out of my pool and in their own!
