In the Brooder
My new chicken coop is a standalone structure and the bedroom is on the second floor. Chickens are living on the first floor now, the second floor should be finished very soon. Now the predators, such as raccoons, are aware of my chickens. They are here several times already. Five days ago, I saw a family of 5 raccoons there. I think my chickens will be safe inside the coop. But I don't want my chicken to living in fear. I am thinking to use an electric fence to let these predators leave my chicken alone. If the predators get an electric shock, will they keep coming? I am not worried about day time. Do you have any good idea about keeping these predators away from my chicken and let them have a peaceful night?
If I have to go with an electric fence. There are two options:
Option 1: use the electric fence around the new coop (not including the Separated Run), saying set up a fence 4 or 5 feet away from the coop. This way will keep the predators at least that distance away from my chicken. But I need to have an extra chicken wire fence.
Option 2: use the electric fence around the first-floor wall. This way I only need to set up a temporary chicken wire on the front side because another three sides are a whole piece of hardware cloth. But the predators can still very close to my chicken. They may be scared.
