ii had an order of eight goslings from stronbergs. three embdens three toulouse and two tufted romans. ive had them for about three and a half weeks now. two of them i noticed were not growing. one died at about hatch size the other day. i still have the other which is about twice her size, but still only about one third of the size of the next smallest one. you can definitely tell something is not right. the toulouse are a lot smaller than the embden gander and the tufted romans, but it is not that bad yet. before the one died, i had bought some electrolyte & vitamin supplement. i separated the two that were not growing and followed the directions accordingly. i also gave this supplement to the other goslings, just to be safe. after doing more research, i found that it might be gizzard worms. i need to try and get them wormed and see if it helps. what do i need to do it with, and how do i do it? any other information you can offer would be helpful. this is the last embden goose besides the more than healthy embden gander. embdens were the main breed i wanted in the order; if she dies, i wont have an embden goose for the gander. please help, i spent a lot of money on this order and the hatcheries dont have more until next spring.

bravevline i am so sorry to hear about your goslings, My gander was acting off a couple weeks ago, even though he was going through molt I jsut felt something wasn't right, so i started reading about Gizzard worms and decided to use Epernix Pour on since I have wormed him he seems much better. I don't understand why young goslings would have gizzard worms though, what about brooder pneumonia? Epernix pour on is used like Frontline for dogs put on the skin on their necks. But I would read up on this and other wormers before you use any.

i need to worm my geese as well but should i worry about chickens getting gizzard worm?

Not sure if chickens get gizzard worms they can get alot of different worms though gape worms being one. round worms and a few others. One thing i like about Epernix pour on is no egg with drawl.

I worm all mine together anyway.

Bravevline, although worms can kill golsings easily, you don´t want to worm them unnecessarily either. When you gave them tonics, did you add extra niacin?

I did worm all my water fowl when I wormed my gander all but not my 2 goslings, I just didn't feel at 5 weeks they needed it.

http://poultrykeeper.com/general-chickens/worming-chickens It says gizzard worms can be common problem in goslings.
Yes, it´s possible, but depends if the ground they´re on is likely to be heavily infested...also, if the breeder regularly worms (like, before they start breeding), then there shouldn´t be much of a problem with tiny ones. Best to only worm goslings if they seem under the weather and you think this could be a reason. Worm when older is fine, though. Oh, and ACV in their water from tiny can also help... they say it makes a less desirable environment for the worms.......
