I am semi-new to raising chickens, started raising my first batch of chickens in 2023. We just recently got a new batch of chickens that are about 13 wks old. We have several different breeds: Silver Lakenvelder, Lavender & Buff Orpington, Blue Australorps, Golden Laced Wyandottes, Dominque, Production Reds, Partridge Olive Egger, Americana, Prairie Bluebell Egger, Starlight Green Egger, White Leghorns, Sapphire Gems, Calico Princess, Cinnamon Queens, Cream Legbar, & Isa Brown. We currently have 31 chickens. I just recently lost one of our new chickens to the wet pox this last week 😭 and was using this website to help care for her and even learned how to tube feed! I found BYC through a google search when dealing with this and was so thankful for all the great useful information here to help me try to take care of her. I've decided to join this group so that I can get advise and help quickly when needed for any future emergencies that may arise and also to learn different ideas on how to take care of my chickens better from more experienced "chicken tenders" (that's what we call ourselves 😜). I love taking care of our backyard chickens and have learned so much about chickens in just the last few 2 years, but there is so much more to learn! I love and was shocked when first getting chickens how much they each have a different personality, and they crack me up all the time with their antics. They are just so fun to be around! We have a small homestead in Texas where we enjoy doing some hobby farming. I like to garden, and my hubby likes woodworking and anything to do with tools and large equipment. We have 4 kids, 4 dogs, 4 barn cats, 2 cows, of course our chickens, and hope to get some goats and sheep and maybe horses within the next few years.
