Ok hubby cut it bigger that needed. 18 in x20 in He cut it stud to stud Now he cannot figure out how to make the door. My intention was to cut it and use that to make the door Add hinges and a ramp. Ta da. But he says nope. And he already ruined the idea by cutting it a few times. Soooo any ideas??? Oh and that is a ladder inside coop

We have two different doors in two coops .

One is a cute hinged door on the outside , good if you’re herding them in and closing it , we added a screw on the inside so we can pull it shut from inside .

My favourite though is the wooden guillotine style wooden door , a piece of wood slides in tracks inside , the rope is inside so you can’t shut it from outside

Get some angle iron and attatch on the inside of coop on the studs. Leave a small gap between the front of the stud and angle. This will allow you to slide a pop door up and down with angle iron acting as a track.. The door will be on the inside of the coop. I can post a pic of mine later.

Please do post a picture I am a visual person. Thanks!

You may get an idea how I made a track for a horizontal sliding door by notching out a 2x2. I've also done this by screwing two different sized pieces of lumber together to form a notch. Chickenwing's idea with angle can work also, inside or outside.

This one kind of shows how I put hinges at the top of the opening so the door would swing up to open. You could do the same thing on the bottom and have the door act as a ramp though I don't believe you would need a ramp as close as that door is to the ground. I made steps so the baby chicks can easily get in and out. The grown chickens don't bother with the steps.

How high will the bottom of that opening be above the level of bedding? You may need to raise that some to keep the bedding from being scratched out. I can't tell from that photo.

I have a Guillotine.
Have a big nylon cutting board as the door.

Nylon cutting board ? Great idea , ours sticks if the humidity is too high,

Huge cutting board is going on my shopping list ! That’s why I keep coming back here, every now and then you get a gold nugget of information or ideas like this one
