Hello! We have a buff orpington, Pumpernickle, that hugs! So cute! You kneel down and she runs up to you and nestles her head right next to your neck! Adorable! Any one else have cute/funny chicken stories?

We have some very cuddly chickens, too. Some of our Silkies will nuzzle along our necks and make the Jetsons car sound. You can hold them for hours. My little White Faced Black Spanish bantam roo first introduced himself to me by hopping out of the carrier, jumping to my knee, then my shoulder, then cuddling and grooming my hair while trilling. He loves to sleep on our bed. Our Buff Orpington hen, Bee, leans in when we hug her, and will pull on my pants and stand on my feet until I pick her up for her hug. But my favorite chicken hug came from our new Russian Orloff rooster, Mal. He hasn't been here long, so I don't expect cuddles, but I picked him up to check on him, and he leaned his neck into me (and half around mine, he's a tall guy) and put his wing around my arm and shoulder. Super chicken hug!

He also does something I never heard of... he 'cheerleads' his girls when they lay. They start up the egg song, and he joins in!
Serenity is in front, Mal in back, and Kaylee off to the left (River's not in frame, but she's there too).

That's great to hear! We also have a Buff Orp and she is the only one who is still proactively snuggly at 3 months and she's just started giving hugs- stretching her neck on my shoulder, arm or nuzzling it under my chin. Of the other 4 two only tolerate being petted or held, the other two hate being picked up. She is at the bottom of the pecking order, though none of them are really picked on, I just see her testing the rest (bouncing at them like a bunny) and they always stand taller than her or flare their hackles. When I said goodnight to them tonight I noticed all her lined up on the long perch close to one window and she was three feet away next to the other window ;/ She has always been a big mama's girl, crying to be picked up out of the brooder, not sure if that's cause or effect to her social standing or a bit of both. But I got lots of hugs from her today, which reminded me of the hugging chicken video.
