hi there, my eggs are on day 19, yesterday i had the humidity way to high for lockdown.
i let it be hoping it would lower over time, and it has the hydrometer of the incubator i am using says 76, i do not have an individual hydrometer and that is a fault on my side this is my first time using an incubator as i usually use broodies!
any input on whether letting the humidity lower gradually until 70% is bad or not would be useful!
thanks in advance!!!

Hi there. Unfortunately, without an independent hygrometer (note the "g" instead of "d" - a hydrometer is used in brewing beverages like beer and wine to help determine the level of alcohol 🙂), you can't really know if the incubator's display is accurate.

Personally, I don't raise the humidity in lockdown until I see the first external pip. A bit over 70% would be ok, but the humidity will also rise (sometimes dramatically) when the eggs begin to hatch.

thanks for your reply, this was my first time using an incubator, next time i use it i will have a hygrometer, heres to hoping these babies do okay anyways!

Good luck with your hatch. Would be nice to see some fluffy cutie chick photos soon :jumpy
ill post photos when theyre out of the incubator as the plastic does not allow for quality pictures!!
they are blue/red laced wyandotte crossed with barred plymouth rock from my own chickens!!:jumpy:celebrate

I love both breeds. I wonder what the x chicks will look like.
me too!, the father (wyandotte) was from a breeder experimenting so the genetics are all a bit funky, the chicks all have black beaks so far unlike both of the parents and black down with small bits of yellow on the wing tips belly and under the beak.
also all their toes are different sploches of grey and pink so they might even be discernable 😂:love:fl
