Hey! I have a duck that unfortunately ended up with a broken leg. Thanks to this website and links shared about how to splint and care for this injury I have that taken care of. But I’m curious about a noise that the duck makes while I’m tending to it and/or moving it. It’s like a chewing noise almost like a noise of someone smacking their lips. But it’s not eating at the time and does have any food in its mouth. I know it’s very stressed out when I have to handle it and occasionally does bite at me and has bitten a few times which with being injured, in pain and I’m sure scare I understand. I can’t find anything about this noise or anything similar to it. Does anyone know what this means? I really enjoy being able to know and understand animals sounds and body language to be able to better care for and respect them and when I may need to take a minute to give it a break etc.

I haven't heard that noise from my ducks, but mine have never been in that much pain before. I'm sure its just a pain response. Kind of like grinding your teeth. Hope your duck starts to feel better soon!
