Thanks for the response! Some reason using them on the floor (like with normal hydronics) and adding an extra comfort in the brooders hadn’t occurred to me ‍♀️
What would you use as the mama hen comfort? I saw someone use a feather duster...would that work?
They don't need a comfort thing.
I think that they meant to use a heating pad too...what people on BYC call a mama heating pad.

Where are you located?
How cold do you expect your coop to get?

Make the floor of the brooder adjustable so you can lower it from the heat as they grow. Would not need to do the whole floor just enough where they can huddle with a bit of room to get the heat they need.

Some people might comment in on the mama comfort. I hadn't heard of the feather duster, may be a good idea. If you had something like that they can snuggle under like a broody, but the heat is coming up from under the brooder floor via hydronics. :bun

Oh ok...I don’t know what a mama heating pad is. I will look that up.

Our coldest outside temp is usually around-20 in February. I may not use it at that time though...

Not sure how cold the actual coop would get as it’s not actually built yet (We pour concrete in a couple weeks) and the brooders will be in the very center of the coop

The coop has a center for feeding, watering, egg collecting as well as all my incubators and a worktable and the brooders...the actual fowl area is on the sides...make sense?
