I’m really looking forward to jumping into check in life with both feet! I know I have a lot to learn, starting with what kind of chickens to get. I’m hoping for small chickens that are very docile, looking to expand my family.

Small chickens are called bantams. Bantams go broody constantly. If you want friendly chickens you can get buff Orpingtons or any other color Orpingtons. They're very gentle birds that will lay eggs. Unfortunately they also go broody quite often! But not as bad as a bantam.

Welcome to BYC. Bantam cochins are very small and very docile.
They will not lay many eggs, and they will sit on the ones they do lay. But they are so cute and friendly that you won't mind them hatching a few more.
