I’m starting to think they’ll never lay eggs.

I bought 4 hens last year from tractor supply. 2 of those hens have yet to start laying and I’m starting to lose hope. I just can’t wait until I see an egg from those two girls. The sapphire gem & Delaware pullet was bought together they’re now roughly 8 months old. My sapphire started laying a month ago at 7 months. My Delaware is the same age and I’ve gotten NO eggs from her yet. Then I have a sapphire olive egger & black copper Maran that was bought in August of last year. So they’re both 6 months old & my sapphire olive egger just started laying this week at 6 months old but my black copper maran hasn’t started laying yet.

So my delegate hen at 8 months hasn’t laid me an egg yet & then my black copper maran at 6 months hasn’t given me an egg yet. Does anyone have the same 2 as I have? If so when did they start laying eggs for you?

Many hens take longer to start laying than others, especially when they hatch late in the year. It has to do with lack of daylight; when the days get shorter, they either stop laying, or don't start laying, until spring. Whereabouts in general are you located? Since it is getting into spring, I imagine they should start laying soon. One of my ten month old pullets just started laying a few days ago!

since there has been shorter days it can delay when they start laying. My girls will be 11 mo on March 8. 3 of them started between 5-7 mo. 2 of them just started with in the last 1 - 1 1/2 weeks. and 2 still haven't laid yet. Neither are the breeds you have but some just take longer than others. My 2 that haven't started yet are the same breed as 1 that started at around 7 mo so just depends on the chickens sometimes too. I am not sure what age Delawares lay but know BCM normally start around 5-6 mo (some may be a bit earlier some a bit later) so doesn't sound like that one is behind at all.

Some of my birds started laying at 9 months because winter came before they starred to lay
True winter did come before for us. Our winter wasn’t too cold. My sapphire gem started laying in Jan which is winter for us. But we are almost in spring. A few more days and sunset is 8 pm! So I’m hoping that helps.

I must of spoke too soon. They both laid their first egg this week. So now I finally have all 4 of my hens laying eggs.
