We have two 7 week old Barred Rocks from Ideal and I will say they are probably the best chicks we have ever had. Their personalities are amazing, and so sweet.

Our EE’s on the other hand.... completely different story. One has an okay personality, the other is psycho.

That’s what I keep reading! My past EE’s were okay at best, but often psycho. Maybe I should just skip them.. it’s really hard finding a FRIENDLY, heat tolerant breed.

I understand that! These 100+ temps have been super hard on our adult birds so I’m glad we chose more heat tolerant this time around.

Doms and barred rocks?

Stupid question but are other types of rocks just as friendly as the barred kind?

I understand that! These 100+ temps have been super hard on our adult birds so I’m glad we chose more heat tolerant this time around.

Do you have any recommendations? I know my slimmer breeds (leghorns, EE, SLW) never really suffered but they were also too flighty for my liking.

I wouldn’t say looks are very important to me but I also wonder about half the flock being barred. Feel like I wouldn’t be able to tell them apart lol

I am a firm believer in you can't tell if a bird is going to be nice and or skittish or whatever until they are grown.
All chicks go through different stages at different ages.
