(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I have three adult Muscovy ducks (1 Drake…2 Hens) I hand raised these three in my house. They are a year old and just had 28 babies between my two. My hens went broody together and co-nested and are co-parenting. I only lost three babies in the process of hatching. And I’m SUPER proud!
My in-laws have over 50 chickens that we help with. (They live next door) They’re awesome too and the eggs are so yummy!!!!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
3 adult Muscovy …. And 28 3-week-old ducklings.
(3) What breeds do you have?
Muscovy
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I love to watch them! Feed them! … and LOVE them! My husband is also super excited about the eggs!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
All things animals! I have 5 acres… and as my husband says (and it’s true) I would have a zoo if o could!
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I run a school…. The administrative side. I have two kids … who love our ducks! … and I’m liking to expand my 5 acres into a true homestead. Gardening, canning, and raising animals! I don’t want to eat any of my animals…. Just take their natural products like eggs and milk!
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I joined several FB ground for ducks and everyone raves about this site for friendship and good info!
