The lid fits very tightly. There isn’t a lid handle, which is a bit maddening, but I run a bungee cord through the handles on each side. At the moment, it’s on the back deck. If I awaken to a black bear destroying it (12 feet away from my bed), I will move it to the shed. 😄

Lol, certainly not black bears proof, I had one pounce on mine lol

I built a metal lined "closet". I will be building a metal lined "bench", essentially. 3x3x15. But I keep between 300# and 800# of feed on hand at all times. If I had just one critter type, a metal trash can or two I could secure against trash panda would be the optimum solution. Instead, I usually have 4 or 5 different feed types on hand at any given moment.

lol,, I should have said that I will move my feed storage to the shed! :D

My approach to black bears is make it annoying and challenging enough for them to get into my yard and into my stuff that they will move on to neighbors with fewer defenses.

"You don't have to outrun the bear; you just have to outrun the person you're with!"

When I was in Scouts, a Florida bear (basically, the smallest bears on the continent) did serious damage to 3/4" plywood trying to get at someone's floral-scented soap befroe moving on out of frustration and/or boredom.

Short masonry walls and metal doors, nothing is "bear proof". Either serious charge electric fence, thick wood, or both to DIVERT bears to someone else's property.
