I started out with thinking this will be simple

:welcome

Hi, it's nice to have you here with us! Your birds look like they are of a size and age that would enjoy the roominess of a coop and run.
They are in a 5ftx2ftx2ft cage and practice being roadrunners, lol. They are 5 weeks old and not fully feathered out yet so with temps still dipping in the 30's they will stay in the house another week or two.

Hiya, and welcome to BYC! :frow

Cute intro! Love the picture! :love

Do you have a coop yet? If not, we have a Coop Forum and you could make them a secure run as well. 1/2" hardware cloth is pretty much standard and keeps out nearly every predator, though bears maybe not. Some folks put their run instructions in with their coops.
Thank you. They will have a 10x20 run fully wrapped with hardware cloth including the bottom to keep out snakes, rats, etc. Top will be roofed, fencing also about 3ft on ground around run to keep raccoons from trying to dig in. Then flowerbeds on top of that. The hen house coop has a about 4.5ftx4.5ft base that will be expanded later to give them more inside room during bad weather. They will have a heater in winter thermostatically controlled ( it will let me sleep at night without bringing them into the living room so i dont worry) and a fan in the summer heat (an AC is still under consideration, lol).

Welcome to BYC!
Don't put hardware cloth on the bottom of your run. They will get their nails caught in it. Just put a 2' wide hardware cloth apron around the base on all sides. You can put sand or dirt on the apron and let grass grow up through it. Good luck with your precious new flock!
