I want to make blown out egg ornaments....

Every year we have a christmas eve celebration where the whole family each gets a new ornament (yes, my 38 year old husband has quite the box of ornaments!)
Usually they have a theme or something.
This year I wanted to make them, as blown out eggs from our girls since it's our first year with the farm.
I was thinking about rolling them in glitter to make them really pretty.
My question is, is there any way to make them more durable?
Would painting them in a layer of glue and putting glitter on them give them a bit of a protective layer?
How do I attach a top for a ribbon or hook?
Does anyone have pics of theirs that they have done?

We use a porcelain type varnish o ours after we decorate them. It really helps to harden them.

We use the wire ornament hangers (ike on glass balls) just squeeze and insert in the top hole, release and tah-dah. We also add a drop of glue.

When growing up, our family tradition was Pysanky (Ukranian Easter Eggs - see link for more info, they're beautiful!) but we used full eggs instead of blown - eventually the inside dries up anyway. I have purchased blown eggs, already decorated, and they are coated in shellac which does help protect them but they are far from unbreakable. I imagine you could Mod Podge, protectant/sealer you can purchase at craft stores or Wal-Mart. More coats = more protection. Good luck, and here's the link

There was a thread on here a few weeks ago that showed pictures of people's egg art. Someone on here does these amazing etched eggs that are stunning. Someone else does this cool art with Fimo clay layered over the egg. Both crafts were beautiful. You might try a search for that thread and see their stuff. I can't remember the title, so you might have to dig a little. Sorry.

Maybe someone else remembers the thread?

I used to do a lot of crafts before I had children. I found the best sealant is Deft. I think that's how it is spelled. It is the best. I found that your cheaper sealants will turn yellow and destroy your hard work. I'm sure any good quality sealant will be ok. Just remember....you get what you pay for usually.

I use a tiny hole that I can thread it into and then let it expand inside.
