I have tried several times to hatch shipped eggs. I used the foam coolers with a fan, waffer theromostat, digital temp and humidity gauge. I have had rotten luck so I built a new incubator out of wood and insulation foam. It will hold over 6.5 dozen large chicken eggs. I have spent well over $200.00 in the past 3 months on shipped eggs.
I am looking for help to fill this incubator for a test run. Please if you can donate eggs or give a cheap price I would really appreciate it. We just had a recent death in the family and funds are very low. I can't ask my parents for help and my graddad has already helped with the last couple of runs. I am working part time and paying my own insurance, small car payment, some rent to parents and pay for my chicken stuff with the help of my grandad.
I don't have paypal but can send check or Money Order. I would like to set it up for after July 4th if possible. I will take most any large fowl. The ones I like best and have tried to hatch are as follows, RIR, Speckled Sussex, Buff Orpington, Barred Rock and EE's. I also have tried mixes and had my best luck with the six I bought local. Have no clue as to what they are.
Please if you can help out pm me and I will get right back to you. I hate to ask but I really do want to try this new one out as soon as I can. Thanks for looking, Larry

The cheapest eggs would be to find a local chicken farmer that sells fresh eggs. Most times they are fertile and you should be able to get them for $2 to $4 a dozen. This way they do not suffer the stress of shipping, fertility on non shipped eggs is much higher.

What part of NC are you in?

I live in a place called PInetown, NC. It is near Bath, NC which is the oldest town in NC. Believe it or not not many people around here raise chickens. I have left notices at the local feed stores offering to buy eggs. When I do see some for sale they are gone by the time I call the people. I even stopped by a mans house while I was riding by and saw his chickens and knocked on his door and talked to him about eggs. He had plenty of eggs but NO rooster. He said he was retired and the last thing he wanted was a rooster waking him up and crowing all the time. I will keep looking around here because like you said local should be more likely to hatch.
Tahanks to the person that has left me a message maybe a few more people will help. Thanks to all, Larry

By the way! The chickens listed in my title page are mostly gone due to a pack of roaming dogs. I now have several layers of protection including an electric fence, Cattle fencing, Small animal fencing and a very solid chicken house. I also have some netting to deture hawks. Thanks, Larry

5$ or a bag of feed. I'm in columbus county nc for about a dozen hatching eggs. Black silkies and OEG bantams. They will have to be picked up though. We have hatched these eggs before and have had almost 100% hatch rate and way cute babies. That is pick up only so not sure how far you are.. I don't have an incubator so someones got to get them before it is too late to hatch them.

I am below Tryon NC about 10 minutes and you can pick up eggs if you like. I have several different breeds, bantams or standards.

Thanks to everyone. I will be getting in touch with the people closet to me. If anyone else can help it would be appreciated. Thanks so much, Larry

Hi there! I live in NC too, north of Raleigh, probably 2 hours from you. I know that is a long way to drive, just for eggs. Maybe you should check out Craigslist, in the farm section. There are lots of chickens for sale there, and I'm sure you could ask for hatching eggs. People will sell the eggs if you ask for them. Good luck!

I have looked in the eastern NC craigs list and there is very little around here as far as poultry goes. I did try buying eggs at an auction in eastern NC and the eggs were really old and shanken up. I opened some to see if they had a bulls eye and the egg just kind poured out all watery. I did not even eat the eggs from that dozen. I did look at the others and they had no bulls eye. I talked with several people and they don't want roosters. Grown roosters go for around 2 to 3 dollars at the auction.
I have left notes at feed stores, stopped at people's homes and ran ads on the local web sites. I am going to leave one on craigs list now that I think of it and see what that doea. Thanks and if you do want to help I would really be in debt to anyone that can help.
I did see steelshot was selling chicks and eggs so I will try sending him a PM also. Thanks, Larry
