I'm new ...

Thats the kind of rooster I need.
A macho rooster....
As @DobieLover said, roosters are a handful! I think it would be best to start off with a couple hens and add a rooster later, or you can just jump right in. I did that (only because I didn’t know Napoleon was a rooster) and it was rough at first, but I learned.

Hi, make yourself at home here!

I agree with @Abriana about 1 rooster is enough for that many females. And if you've never raised them before, do your research so you'll have a better understanding of rooster behavior. The Learning Center (you'll find it under the Articles tab) is a great place to start.

Best wishes!
Thanks...I'll check it out.

Welcome to Backyard Chickens! We are glad you joined the flock!:welcome BYC is a helpful site providing all the information you need to know about poultry! There is always space for more members on the BYC roost!:highfive: I agree with @Abriana that one rooster is enough per ten hens although I kept one rooster with two hens and there wasn't one feather missing from them. He mated each hen only about once a day but all roosters are different. Hope you enjoy it here as much as we all do!
