Incubation Q's: Temp and Egg Position

I just made a candler with a very bright LED flashlight. I used a square of soft black foam and made it slightly grippy and smooth with black electric tape. In addition, I was able to make a cuff of sorts with the black electrical tape to go around the top of the flashlight. The cuff is not sticky - I folded over the edge onto itself. The egg in the picture is from my fridge, so I wouldn't expect to see anything of interest - but It looks like it should be bright enough to do egg diagnostics, so I'm happy. I'm guessing my first candling exercise should be Day 4 or 5, then again Day 9 or 10.View attachment 1189869View attachment 1189870
Thats awsome and way more creative them me!! I used one of our dive lights and cardboard lol
Yes i usually wait until day 5-6 and then 9-10 and they "Try" to do them all before i put them in lockdown. I dont always get them all!
Your flashlight eill work great but when you candle them use do it from the big end not the pointy end. You see better. They are growing in tbe pointy end so its hard to see. The air cell makes it easier to see everything you are looking for. :D

Good to know. So, the air cell is in the big end? That was my next research project: candling quail eggs. Most info seems to be on Chicken eggs, and would assume that Quail are similar (except smaller size, and shorter incubation time). Haven't come across a Quail candling visual chart, for example, like you can for chicken eggs.

They are like chicken eggs just way smaller.

I found this might help you see the day by day progress.

I am still looking for a helpful chart.
