Hi there,
I have 6 Indian Runner duck eggs in my small, automatic turning incubator - first time we have incubated ducks.
All 6 seemed fine on candling at day 20, but 2 of the ducklings have always candled larger than the other 4 for some reason... a hotspot in the incubator maybe? These 2 pipped on day 25, way earlier than expected, before I'd even taken the racks out. I quickly put them all into lockdown and wacked up the humidity.
The beaks came out and the 2 seemed happy and moving. In the morning of day 26 however, it was clear they had died.
Absolutely gutted and feel terrible, I'm guessing they were just too early and the humidity hadn't been high enough for long enough. I am now on day 28 and haven't seen any of the eggs move, although I haven't candled since day 20, as the lockdown was so swift. Would anyone candle at this point as there has been no movement? I'm guessing I wouldn't see much. Very worried these four won't make it either...
Any advice on what may have happened to the early two and whether I should candle the remaining ones, much appreciated.
Thanks,
Sam
