INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

Looked for our beloved lavender turkey today but only found feathers under our house. Very sad day as she was a very sweet girl who required a lot of care and love due to her progressive visual impairment. RIP Tintaglia.

On the bright news, three poult ate doing well, including Thanksgiving who has grown quite strong and demanding. Think the middle poult is red blue bronze. Smallest appears to be Bourbon Red.

If you are inclined, pray for me. Suspecting electrolyte imbalances. Having extreme difficulty moving, speaking, doing much of anything. Good thing hubby is off work this week.

Went to ER today. Had CT scans done and bloodwork. Couldn't find anything abnormal. Will be seeing a neurologist later. Suspecting a concussion. Have been in a couple minor car accidents, including a hit and run on Friday night that left me with a huge headache. Kids were all okay, but the major symptoms didn't happen til Saturday night so I hadn't thought anything of it til tonight. Still not able to do much of anything and have difficulty chewing food and cannot speak well or move around by myself. Had a terrible discharge nurse experience at Community East who basically accused me of faking everything. Very frustrated now.

Conventional medicine can be so stupid sometimes, (my experience recently) and use outdated information. I think they're either ignorant or just don't care. Hopefully the neurologist can help.

I have a pip! I have a pip!! EEEK!!! :weee :celebrate :jumpy

I keep checking on it but it must be resting now. ARG, how in the world can anyone stand this wait?!

Hello all, I hope your new year is better than ours. We've had a tumultuous turn of events that may end up in my having to give up my flock. The morning of the 1st, my mother in law passed away. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer two weeks before Christmas, and had just started treatment. The lucky thing is that she went instantly, before she even knew it.
Because of this we may have to move to Greenwood, as my father in law cannot afford to keep the house on his own. I have seen that Greenwood has a ordinance against "barnyard fowl", but I've seen through my googling that in 11-13 there was a substantial push to change this ordinance, but I can't find if it's changed or not. I would like to keep my girls, they've been very cathartic for me, and have been great producers. If need be, I'll have to find a home for them, 13 in all. If anyone knows if any things changed in Greenwood, or a direction to look in, I would be very appreciative.
@Lengerich Farms
Sorry to hear about your loss.

I hope someone will have some guidance for you on the chickens. Perhaps call the county/city offices and ask who could give you update. But don't tell them the address you're going to move to!

Wow...sorry to hear about that. One of my daughters had a similar experience with doctors in the Centerville area. She realized that she had nerve damage from her symptoms but they were adamant that she didn't. She was going to a different doctor than normal because she had just recently moved to the area to finish her nursing degree.

Anyhow, after WEEKS of extreme pain and nerve damage symptoms, she finally came back up to our area and went to her normal doctor who confirmed she was right and it was nerve issues. She may have permanent damage because the first doctor refused to listen and check for nerve damage.

eta: The doctor also treated her like she couldn't possibly know what was wrong and acted like she was making it into more than it was. EXASPERATING

Don't be afraid to go to someone different than you've seen until they're willing to help you!!!!

I agree with @JanetMarie on her assessment of a HUGE NUMBER of conventional medicine practicianers. You have to be your own researcher and be willing to be tenacious to get the help you need unfortunately.

I also wanted to say, I didn't read before my last post, didn't mean to seem insensitive there. Keeping my thoughts with, and sending positive vibes out to those that need them. :hugs

YESSS!!! :weee I'm so excited!!

Looks like there'll be another one to join the first one soon! One of the two eggs that has pipped so far has suddenly made its pip much larger in the past half hour or so, so I think that one's next up to hatch! :fl Come on babies!! :jumpy

The first one is drying still, but to my surprise, it's black. Its parents are my two Red Silkied Cochin bantams, absolutely no chance of any kind of mix up, so I have no idea where that came from! Should be interesting to see how it feathers out! It is SO precious and small! :love

Two babies hatched overnight, and another egg is pipping! These babies are too cute!! :love Also, now that the first one is fully dry, it looks pretty much exactly like a Partridge Cochin chick. Where in the world did that come from? I grabbed a few pictures with my cell phone, but they aren't great. Still, I'm too excited not to share these precious little babies!!

I went against what everyone says and opened the incubator to get the two dry babies out. To make up for the inevitable loss of humidity, I tossed a damp paper towel over the pipping egg while the incubator was opened, and I re-wet all the sponges in there to make sure the humidity came back up fast. It seems to have worked, and the pipped egg is wiggling away still, so fingers crossed for a successful hatch from that one, too! :fl

Here is the first chick, all dried out:

The second one to hatch is more what I was expecting them to look like. This picture's a bit washed out, because the baby is actually a little more reddish than it shows. But that little face! :love I tried to be clever and marked the first three eggs with A, 1, and α (alpha). This baby came from Egg α, so I've taken to calling it 'Alphie'. :love

The third baby is out of the egg that was laid on December 13, so I call him 'Lucky' (I just have this thing with 13's). He's also a bit darker than I expected, but still pretty wet so we'll see what he looks like when he's dry.

'Lucky' is just full of attitude already. :love This is the look I keep getting through the incubator window since I took the other two chicks out. "No fair!!"
