INDIANA BYC'ers HERE!

It would be great to look like we once did & have that unlimited energy..... BUT
today's kids have it so much harder than we did.

My "Mom" rant:
There are so many addictive vices being marketed especially toward teens. Ex: sexual ads, vaping, narcissism via social media, "likes" &/or number of followers, 24/7 texting, & now marijuana's legal (here in IL) It's too easy to find out all sorts of info about a teen via the Internet and made worse because any thoughtless teen action can be saved forever used to haunt them as adults.

We had it easy. We could simply avoid certain places and if we said or did something inappropriate, it could be forgotten. Other kids had to have the guts to talk to your face (or at least call on the phone) so much of today's social drama didn't exist.

Nope. I would not like to be a teen right now.
:goodpost:
I've got neighborhood kids and close friend's kids in their late teens now. Social pressure is pretty strong, like a different type of bullying. I work with 2 that are heavy into 4H and one trying to achieve Eagle Scout. Kids into "the old ways" work hard and usually get grief from peers. I encourage any child BE YOU. Friends and buddies are part of growing up. But your future is yours alone! The children following their passion will achieve their dreams.

This little guy is the last of the litter needing his forever home!
All his siblings will be leaving next week.
Anyone know of someone looking for a puppy?
ABCA Registered, First Puppy shots, 8 weeks on the 13th, dewormed every 2 weeks, started on basic training, raised with livestock, has a good toy drive, very interested in livestock. Always willing to please!

Look who's 11 weeks old! (silkied serama female)

She still lives in a storage tote by herself & is afraid of other chickens. Her nickname is Solo. She may go to live in a friend's house for a while.(chick-sitting) I was thinking about letting my silkie hatch some chick friends for her, but there's a lot going on here.

How precious! :love

Hi, y'all! Happy to see there's a thread for Indiana!

I've been hunting around to find some fertilized eggs for my broody Silkie. Anyone in the Indianapolis area have a rooster and some active layers? I'm looking to trade for about a dozen fertilized eggs so my kids can see how the hatching process works. :)

Hoping to make it happen in the next few days if possible so that I can catch her early in her broody cycle. If not, I'll probably break her so she doesn't get drained. Would be happy to trade my unfertilized eggs so you're not short any, of course!

Hi, Man_of_fishers,
We're on the West side of Indy--we could trade an half dozen of eggs with you, but right now only 2-3 of our hens are earning their keep!

Hey, thanks so much! I may take you up on that! I'm in Fishers. I doubt I'll find anyone closer, but I'll give it a day or so to see if anyone else responds. Otherwise, I'll let you know! I feel ya about them earning their keep—these cold wet months have been hard on them!

Thanks again!

:welcome Welcome to BYC and our thread! :frowI'm not far, Pendleton. I have American Bresse, Barred Rock, Leghorn, Black Copper Maran, Lavender Americana, EE & OE. Not all have resumed laying but I think I can get you some eggs. Send me a message if any of the breeds interest you. Every breed I own has a breed specific rooster. Been keeping chickens about 7+ years so I'm very selective on my roosters temperaments. I really won't need eggs back, just want to give your kids a chance to experience it!
