Hi there!
I have two ducks that live indoors, Karmann (black indian runner) and Ghia (Welsh harlequin)-
Currently I have them living in a bathtub, however, they are going to quickly out grow that.
Im looking for some ideas as to an easy, cheap, indoor house. I want it to look as cute as possible, but also be super functional and very very easy to clean. (turns out, ducks poop alot.). I'm new to the duck lifestyle. These are my first two, and I don't plan on adding any more for the remainder of their lives. (fiancé was NOT happy). Im looking for all kinds of ideas with thorough details. Im looking into different kinds of bedding, I was going to try astro turf, but it sounds like thats not such a hot idea. My dream would be to use some sort of a grate that poop can fall through, with a tray I can just pull out and hose off, but I'm worried that will hurt their little feet. I hate shavings, and I tried sand, but the sand smelled so bad after a couple of days, and that was with me cleaning it 4+ times a day.

As of now, they get supervised time outside, but its minimal, because I'm not sure my neighborhood allows ducks. (getting evicted from this neighborhood wouldn't be the worst thing thats ever happened to me, but still) I should be buying my own house within the year, and it will have a big yard (

) that they'll be able to run around in most of the day, however, I still want them to live inside a lot of the time. HELP!

I am a realist and can almost predict that you will be looking to re home your 2 ducks in NOT TO DISTANT FUTURE .. They will grow too big for any home confinement I can think of.. Do it correctly, when you have your own home, and yard, Build them a coop.. and a small pond or swimming pool. I SINCERELY WISH YOU THE BEST. Keep us posted as to how things work for you.

These duckies are here to stay, I know plenty of people who have made it work as indoor pets, and I'll do what it takes to keep them clean, healthy, and happy. and mostly indoor. I live in florida. where it is getting like 105+. and I'm extremely close to the beach. like less than five miles. imagine the humidity. nobody should have to be outside in that. ducks included. moving west asap.

Hi again ohnoitstashley,

For a small amount you can build a compact 3'x3'x10' outdoor pen using 1/2 inch hardware cloth and 2"x 1" wood strips, and a few hinges. You can even put a small 3 foot diameter kiddie pool inside of it, and a 17.00 box fan hung on the outside blowing in, will keep them plenty cool if you locate the pen in a shaded area. Please ask as many questions as needed.
