My husband found some cameras for surprisingly little money and set them up in my chicken coop. They require wifi and power, and do not broadcast online, you can only access the live feed from your phone, as it's an app. They are not weatherproof, so if you put them outside, they need to be under an eave or inside a box of some kind.
They will record motion and/or sound events and store them for a period of time.

These things are the bees knees.

The cameras cost less than $30 apiece. We now have 7 on and around our property. They're fantastic, and come highly recommended.

Sorry, I posted this and then promptly got on a plane to go away for a few days.

Yes, you can download pics and videos, and quite easily.
I just returned from a trip, and was able to look in on my chickens any time I felt like it, it works so incredibly well.
I can't upload a video to this site, it apparently doesn't accept the MP4 format. I'll have to put those on youtube or a host site and link them, but for the moment, here are some screenshots. This is what the dashboard looks like.

Also, my favorite feature is that you can talk through the camera from a phone. I can talk to my chickens and they can hear me and talk back! And I can tell my husband dinner is ready when I am too lazy to walk down to the barn.

You can get a little silicone house for the camera that will protect it from rain pretty well. We've had ours up for about 2 weeks, some of which are outside and under eaves, and they seem just fine so far.

Wow that price is great. If they ever develop an outdoor version that's waterproof and truly wireless I'd get a few. I just got a Ring Stick Up Cam for my coop. Quite a bit pricier but offers wired, solar and battery options.

According to their website, they are working on it.

"A camera designed specifically to be used outdoors is in development, but we currently do not have a timeline of when it'll be available. To join the discussion about the outdoor camera check out this forum post, subscribe to our email newsletter, and follow us on social media to receive the latest product updates!"
