Everyone raising chicks and wondering about sexing their young chicks has heard about Vent Sexing. Whilst it's probably the most effective and most accurate way of sexing young chicks, it's also known for being notoriously hard to do for the average backyard chicken keeper and should be left to the experts.

Some videos online will attempt to display this and show the variations in vent between male and female but doing my research, these are often misinformed and the chick's health could be forfeit during the attempt.

I do not recommend to attempt Vent Sexing since it can hurt the chick especially when they are so delicate during the first few days of life. Please don't try it.

Here is a photo from a book my Father gave me regarding raising Poultry. During reading this section of the book, it was clear that Vent sexing is even more complicated that I anticipated! Look at all those different types!

It's a good read if anyone is interested. Lots of good information, nice and easy to absorb.

I wanted to share this because, lets be honest, chick's butts all look the same to us and we just need to enjoy the babies when they are young and fluffy, not prod and poke them, you can't change the outcome either way, so please, be patient! All will be revealed in time! 🥰

Then why post this info?
I posted it because I found it interesting information. I've never seen those images explained in such detail on a video or article before and I felt that the image provided shows just how complicated it really is! It's not just a case of lifting a chick's tail and having a look. Looking at that image, I wouldn't be able to tell the difference in all those butts!

I am in no way endorsing that this is a good method for the average backyard keeper and wanted to emphasise this via the use of this very complicated image. People get misinformed all the time, I just wanted to show it's not a simple process and there is more to it than people think.

I also didn't post the information about 'How the book informs you to look', for this reason - just the image :)
