I need help with a wound on my hen, we lost our home in the fire and when we evacuated I took them too a farm they go moved to another farm about two weeks after we evacuated was the first time I could get to see them one of my hens was clearly beat up but nothing to severe I checked her over and was told they would look in on her. Planed to go back the next day put blue coat on her and a saddle to keep it from getting worse ,but then got Locked out by the rain. anyways finally got to see her again today she’s much worse doesn’t look like she was checked on it looks like they ate a part of her back took her with me she’s in a dog crate put anti microbial spray and Neosporin on it but don’t know what her outlook for this is or if there’s more I can do gonna try to keep her with me until it’s healed but can’t have chickens where I’m moving

:hugs I'm sorry to hear about the loss of your home.

When you can, please post some photos of your hen and her wounds.

It sounds like you are doing good with caring for her. Clean all the wounds with your spray. Then apply the triple antibiotic ointment.

Keep her hydrated. A little sugar water or electrolytes can often help perk them up.
Once she's drinking well, offer her her normal feed or some wet mushy feed.

Was she being overmated?

Thank you no they have no roosters and no one saw or noticed she was in this condition which is concerning to me so I will move the other ones as soon as I’m able as well Just for safety, tho this hen is blind in one eye might be how someone got the better of her

Poor thing!

Any bad odors?

I'd continue to keep the ointment on the wound. If it begins to smell, then use Hibiclens (Chlorhexidine) to clean the wound really well and trim feathers from around the wound.

Do you have an antibiotic on hand? Most of the time meds are not necessary but just asking in case.

No odor and she’s eating, put her on high protein, and she’s even a bit feisty today hopefully a good sign! I have blue coat, vetericyn spray and Neosporin but that’s pretty much it.
I know that stuff, thanks for the recommendation I’ll pick that up incase
earliest appointment I can get into a vet that sees chickens is next month but I’ll see if anyone round me that has livestock has anything
