Hi, all. My husband has dragged home an old school bus. He expected me to be excited to turn it into a chicken coop. To his surprise, I am not. I have doubts and concerns. My memories of riding a bus are of being miserably hot or cold. How the heck does one insulate a bus to keep the birds healthy? Do I need to add turbine roof vents? Replace the door or just build an interior wall to prevent predators? Will it require heat or fans? Do you leave operational windows for ventilation? If so, simply screw on hardware cloth to the exterior to keep out predators? I've seen buses online, but not details. Thank you all for the assistance and information.
Also, I'm in middle Tennessee in case that changes the insulation recommendations.

Has someone(your hubby) been perusing Pinterest? :D

As well you should be.

I think that the biggest problem with a bus is no roof overhangs to protect all the open windows that would/could provide ventilation.

Insulation wouldn't do much, if any, good.
Also a lot of consideration for access for both keepers and birds.
Much modification would be needed, and the skills to do so especially considering that it would be metal work.
