Insulation Needed?

Do I need insulation when building a coop? Some articles say yes and some say no.

Where do I put it? Does it have to be in the floor and roof?

I bought a storage shed that has 16” studs like a house. I did all the walls and the roof. I can post some pictures later

I think insulation could be helpful in the roof, if the sun beats down on it in summer. Proper ventilation will prevent the coop from getting much warmer than outside temps in the winter, but I have heard people say they can be about 10 degrees warmer. Ventilation and location will be more important in summer and winter than insulation, but if your coop is in the beating sun, insulating the roof couldn't hurt.

Thanks guys. I guess it would be a good choice to get the insulation. Don't want cold or overheated chooks because I was stingy

Our coop is in full sun from early morning until early afternoon. It gets hot. The chicks go under the coop or under the big oak tree in the run,where it is shady. In the winter it gets pretty cold. We are in south east Massachusetts. I think proper ventilation is important. Our coop has it. So for us insulation is not needed. YMMV.

Be sure that however it is installed, the chickens cannot peck at it, chickens LOVE to eat things like blue board!
