International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

To give an update.. the 2 boys I posted way back from Joannie, I sold. 3 of these 7 are going today to the same customer. I'm probably going to give him red/orange with the deformity hump on the back and 2 that are way over colored.
I sold all 7 pullets that were at POL except 'Solo' the Black Silver. (She's not for sale). One of whom purchased 2, then came back and got 3 more the next day.
I wanted to keep a couple of the darker egg layers, but they went to very nice homes and I needed to lighten the work load for my wife after last week's episode to my health.
I did set eggs in the incubator tho. I've got 13 eggs going from 3 pullets.
Jessi was the darkest egg layer from Joannie.
Harmony was the next darkest from Angel,... she went missing.
And Gloria was the next nicest with no mossiness and correct eyes from Betty.
The one mistake I made was selling the 3, 1 from Betty and 2 from Angel that hasn't laid yet so I didn't get to see egg colors or take pics to evaluate them. But I'm in contact with the person that got them and she said she would send me pics.

So that's the jist so far. If I sell all 7 of these boys above that opens that coop up for the BBS Silvers if Poppy the White boy has issues with Kong and I need to separate him out but so far it's been good. At the moment I can't build the other coop I had planned so I'm having to do what's best in the meantime.
I still have 12 under 8 weeks growing out and the 13 in the Bator.
That's it for now other than posting the mixed boys I have for sale. I may sell a couple of the Marans hens I won't be using but haven't made that decision yet.
My goals are to weed thru to lower the BCM flock down to the breeders only, maybe move a few over to King's flock I do want to keep, breed Solo the Black Silver in for her good type etc. and focus on getting more Black Silvers asap.

Thanks for reading my rant...🙂

Red/orange...Kong x Betty 18 wks.
Notes...head spot at hatch, still there at 6 wks and has an m comb. I've noticed the hump or deformity on his back a couple weeks ago. Not sure if this is a broken shoulder or what. He's the last of the 4 from Betty.View attachment 3957078View attachment 3957079View attachment 3957080View attachment 3957081View attachment 3957082View attachment 3957083View attachment 3957084View attachment 3957085View attachment 3957086View attachment 3957087View attachment 3957088View attachment 3957089
How bad is the bump on the shoulder? If it isn’t too bad and occurred randomly rather than from hatch, I’d say he’s a keeper.
Tail looks really good and at this stage he seems to be the best balance of breast vs shoulder colour.

If he has always had the bump I’d refrain from keeping him so he cannot pass any genetics for it on.

This one is the best, fantastic long type and his tail doesn’t seem too high. I like his leg colour, and his breast is not over-coloured.
I’m just worried about his shoulders, they really should have way more colour at this age.

I think he is still worth keeping even if the shoulders don’t colour, as he can pass the melaniser genes down and hopefully you can balance them out in the next generation.

In the middle about this one. Nothing stands out but he isn’t the worst. Just a bit scruffier with his comb and how his feathers have grown in.

@BlueTheBrahma ...I sold 4 of them yesterday. Based off @Bantambird commenting on Red band I kept him. Had to make a decision on the others but ironically maybe my eyes are getting pretty good at this, because I held onto Blue/White and Blue/Yellow.
One thing that swayed me to decide on these 3 were their varying amounts of chest color. One has none, one has just a speckling, and the 3rd a little more.
Bantambird helped me confirm that Red was the best of Betty's 4 so with keeping him I've at least got a little diversity and not all 3 brothers.

I thank you both for taking the time to give your thoughts of course, as always it's very much appreciated.

He's had the hump for quite some time but I can't confirm if he had it at hatch, so I sold him yesterday. He was head spot and I liked him but I was worried about passing that on.

I kept him and will keep an eye on his shoulders. When the next age I should get these guys looked at again? I won't adhere to it honestly, just curious. 🙂
