International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

View attachment 40231722 marans egg (Natasha, BCM) was darker but still matte, the second saw the return of her usual shine. Her eggs actually seem darker than last years or even her first 21 eggs. It’s odd to see the shine change, I didn’t realise this varied like colour does.

This guy is yellow/orange band. He is the 2nd and last boy from Momma. @BlueTheBrahma I believe he might be the one you noticed in the foreground.

He was quite the camera ham, compared to yesterday's yellow band.... he let me get some nice pics of him I think. I like his tail and leg stance.

This guy is superb. Lovely low tail, legs well apart and great type. Notice how his body is long and the same depth all along his back. His rear is a tad narrower but it’s a clear improvement from the original stock.

His legs are heavily feathered but his middle toes are clean, so no fault with this. The over coloured breast is fixed, almost all black. I’m a fan of his leg colouration, bold pink legs with nice and neat slate shading.

Comb is also neat, not perfect at the back but really nice serrations (notice how they are clear straight triangles rather than convex like the other one’s). Six serrations too, right in the middle of the sweet spot (5-7).

And of course he has inherited the top quality copper colour from your line, perfect.

He’s my favourite so far, though maybe I’m missing some others.

Does anyone know what the US standard calls for for for the colour of toenails in BCMs? I noticed that some of these boys have pink/white nails, but don’t know if slate or white is the correct one (black copper isn’t in the English standard so I have no reference).
