International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Thanks! I like how rich the colors are with the marans. I’m not really sure what causes the speckling. All of my 5 marans have sort of speckling.

The ink jets are spitting and sputtering....that's the best I can do.

The last pullet to start laying is now 1 shy of a full dozen. She's pretty consistently giving me speckles just like her Grandma Joannie.

Nope. Different breeders. I figured better chance at nicer eggs. 2 different people.

good point. you can avoid breeding brothers and sisters.

I’ll get photos on the scales, but if I recall Natasha’s egg is about 2 oz and Chanel’s is 2.2 oz. On average, their size varies a bit.

Edit: that’s 56 and 62 grammes.

The 2 sisters with dark eyes look so similar that I’ve never able to tell one from another. They’ve got some minor differences like comb spikes and depth of color in the beaks.
The one with green eyes (Penguin) and the last one in the bed with the bay eyes (Pretty Girl) are the mothers of the three others- Penny, Peggy, and Polly.

I was just having a read of the French Marans club website. Something I noticed is that they do not describe a dark cuckoo variety at all, but instead seem to call the standard dark cuckoo ‘silver cuckoo’.

I feel like this should be a chooks man question, but does anyone know if this means that the standard French type cuckoo is genetically what we call dark cuckoo in the UK (barred blacks) or what we call silver cuckoos (which are barred Black Silvers)?

My BCM eggs are supposed to arrive today. Unfortunately the guy put them in shipping on the 28th so it's been through the weekend. What's that 6 days in shipping? I bet they are too scrambled.
