International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Finally got my BCM eggs today. 7 days shipping. My husband got them while I'm at work and he sent me these pictures. I don't know of these are really dark or not. He put them in the sun for pictures. One is cracked at the air cell. It's the extra one that's light colored. He put them resting air cell side up. Are these decent colored BCM eggs?

I guess they are darker than in pic.

They looked more dark in the picture. Supposedly champion bloodlines. I didn't ask if that means the bird or eggs.

The eggs look very light in colour to me, and looking at the one held in your DH's hand rather small too unless his hands are unusually big.

This is her normal egg, she's been pretty consistent since she started, so the one today was way off par

So the best I can describe these eggs is about the same size as my Delaware eggs. My Delawares lay eggs in the 60 grams range. Is this about the same size/weight Marans should be laying? I've never seen a Marans hen in person but I'm guessing similar in size to a Delaware. Delaware is 6.5 lb hens with 60+ gram eggs.

The official weight for Marans hatching eggs ranges between 65 - 78 grams with 65 being the lowest acceptable weight. Eggs bigger than 78 grams can have difficulties hatching.

Have a look at the egg colours they should lay, but I breed for egg colour.

Those eggs are phenomenal. Like...darkest ones I think I've seen yet. Your eggs must cost a small fortune.

Thank you! I've been pretty happy with these Wheatens! Now I just need their eggs to get big enough to incubate lol
