In the Brooder
Hello!
I recently picked up 11 new ducks, which are all 1 year of age. Within the new flock I have only 1 Cayuga drake. I am adding these 11 new ducks to my current flock. I currently had 1 female and 2 drakes. Those 3 are now 5 months of age. I kept the 2 flocks separate for 1 week, I let my 3 free range while the other 11 were in the fenced in area. The Cayuga drake would run at the fencing. This weekend we introduced the flocks together. The 3 drakes fought a little and chased each other around, but my Cayuga drake is a little rough with my Khaki female. The 2 drakes will get in between them then he backs off for a little while, then right at it again. When she has enough of the Cayuga drake she will fly out of the fenced in area (yes, my Khaki female flies). She would prefer to just stay away from him, but I feel like it is starting all over again every day with the introduction. I understand it is mating season, but I do not know what else differently I could have done/or should do. Do I continue to just let them figure it out? It is not to the point of injury to any of them, but I would like to avoid that at all costs. The new females that I got typically just do there own thing. I feel bad and want them all to "hangout" together. They are pretty split up yet. Especially when my Khaki female flies out, then my other 2 drakes just follow her around with a fence between and don't mingle with the new flock.
