Hello! I currently have 14 hens. We are getting a new rooster today for protection after sadly my other one died. I'm so excited I love chickens so I want to do what's best in how I introduce him. My chickens free range then get put in the coop at night, we are getting him tonight, therefore the hens will be put up when I get back. So when I get home would it be best to just put him in the coop with the other hens for the night then check in the morning? Thank you!

Before you start introducing him, I would quarantine him as far as possible for a month. Even a seemingly healthy bird could be sick and the stress of a new home can cause a bird to fall ill as well

After that you can place him in a dog crate in the run for a few days or if he's a mature rooster you can probably get away with just putting him in during the day, it's often much easier to introduce a mature rooster to an all hen flock than another hen, especially since they're used to having a rooster around
