Hey welcome! I love the dancing smile too lol(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I'm new to keeping and taking care of chickens, though have taken every opportunity on other occasions to pet or hold chickens. (If I can catch them!) Or just admire them if they're not into that. I ordered my chickens sometime this winter and they are set to come May 5th!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now?
None, but will be getting five : )
(3) What breeds do you have?
They are one of each, Buff Orpington, Speckled Sussex, Barred Plymouth Rock, Easter Egger, and Golden Laced Wyandotte, from My Pet Chicken.
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?
I will be looking forward to interacting with them as much as possible while they are chicks in order for them to familiarize themselves with me, and with no school from COVID-19 I guess I'll have alot of time for that. I am also really excited about getting to know them and their personalities.
(5) What are some of your other hobbies?
I'm into drawing, writing, and reading above all. Other than that I also like tons of other random stuff that would be a pain to list ; )
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.
I live with my family of five, (me, my mother and father, two brothers,) in a rural town somewhere in New England. My other pets are two cats, two guinea pigs, and a reclusive hermit crab. I'm a high school student also currently looking for work part time : )
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I found BYC maybe 5 or 6 years ago when I had a super chicken phase. You know how some kids had horse phases? I had a chicken phase but grew out of it when I remembered that I lived in a Washington D.C suburb which absolutely did not allow chickens. But when I moved to a big property in New England it was finally the right time and I delved back in. I decided to make my account today as me and my dad are going to start construction on the coop soon.
Man am I excited though. I'm pretty familiar with this place. One of my favorite things are these great dancing smilies and you can bet I'll use at least one in every other message I send.![]()
Thank you! I'm so excited for all their different colors : )Great breed choices - you will have a gorgeous flock!
