Yesterday my 6 year old Americana hen had surgery where she had a stuck egg removed (eggbound) but she was also having respiratory issues while they checked her out. At the end they gave this antibiotics, but on the box it says if for use in cats and dogs. We used it before for our cats. Is this safe to give to a chicken?

We have reputable vet who handles farm animals regularly, unfortunately we aren't able to get a hold of the doctor that performed the surgery easily since it's currently calfing season so he has emergency visits coming in left and right.

We also have VetRX on hand in case we need to stick with that instead.

You can use amoxicillin and clavulinate on chickens. But they will need a lot more of a dose than some larger animals. A 5 pound chicken could get 125-250 mg of amoxicillin twice a day for 7-10 days. What you have there, if there is 50 mg per ml, they will need 2.5 to 5 ml per dose. The container has only 15 ml. I would try to get amoxicillin or Aqua Mox capsules online or from your vet and give 1 capsule orally every 12 hours. Some vets may prescribe enrofloxacin. Vet Rx is about as effective as using Vicks, and it is herbal oils and camphor.
