Is coop door necessary?

Better safe than sorry. Also I like to have them in the run and be able to close off coop access when cleaning it.

I do have a Fort Knox run but still use the pop door. I have an automatic one. There will be times that you want to keep them in or out of the coop. I'm assuming since you are Tennessee that you have winter weather. If you have good ventilation up high then you'll want to be able to close that off when temps are really cold. It is amazing how much cold air moves thru that little door.

My coop and run are now one unit, and safe, so the coop doors aren't shut usually. There are times when I want to separate birds, and then the doors are very useful.
