Is crocheting hard to do?

I went to a poultry swap yesterday just mainly to look around. My FIL asked if I was going to buy anything and I joked that I'd probably only buy a baby items since I'm going to be trying for a baby this month. He got a laugh saying he don't think there will be any baby items there.

I must of cursed myself cause I came back with a handmade yellow soft baby blanket that was crocheted and had a crocheted duck on the corner of it. The woman also made crochet beanies and even had a baby duck cocoon. She was selling them for a lot less than I thought she would have. I bought the blanket for $15.

I got thinking yesterday that the blanket seems like it might be something easy to make. What got me thinking of it was I have a baby shower next week which I know there wouldn't be time to make one but there are more coming up. I also wouldn't mind making some myself if I end up getting pregnant.

I would love to make some of those cute baby beanies that look like chickens, ducks, owls, bears, and dogs. Those are the cutest little things for the baby photos. I'd love to make one and have it used for whenever I have a baby for their first photo shoot.

I've tried watching videos and only a couple were good. Most of them didn't explain things out when it was a beginner video and went so fast I couldn't see the types of stitching or where at on the chain they started doing a different type of stitching. I was wondering if I went to a fabric store if they would probably have the instructions for the blankets and beanies that showed how to do it? I do know from what I've read that the hook and yarn size can change the size of the item and how it will look.

I think crocheting is pretty easy. I only do basic stitches, though. I made a crocheted blanket for each of my granddaughters when they were born - and they love them. But again - I only do very simple things.

I only can do a few stiches..............because I find it very difficult to understand................same with knitting............

The chain stitch I learned from the videos since it was the easiest to do and the slip knot to start with. The simple blankets look like they might be easy especially the first row of just chains.

It seems like it would be fun to do but then again I like sitting down and doing latch hook rugs. I know some people find those boring to do. I can't find any of them anymore except for a small square unless I want to pay a high price for one off ebay.

I haven't crocheted in a while, but I'm made several blankets for family members. Some patterns are easier than others. I've done some that were so tedious that I'll never do that pattern again. I have a blanket that I was working on to use up all my spare yarn - I need to get back to it and finish it. You also have to learn to crochet at the same tension, otherwise it ends up cockeyed.

There are several crocheting threads on here. The folks in them are super friendly and more than ready to help you learn stitches an to share patterns. I just finished a granny square swap that was a lot of fun. We all made 1 square for each person participating in the swap - then sent them to the person 'hosting' it. She will sort them out and send us each back 1 from each participant.

Gonna be a very eclectic and lovely blanket.

Some of us find crocheting easy. There are actually only a few basic stitches and all the fancy things are combinations thereof. The 'crochet chat' thread has a lot of experienced crocheters on it. I love to crochet but have difficulty with written instructions so stick to easy things. I was on the same swap as canesisters. It is fun. There will be another swap at some point. Good luck.

I've been trying to make a hat similar to the goblin hat and I decided to start at the end of it and work forward while following instructions. After multiple hours and it was not getting anywhere close to fitting on a head and just getting longer to the point I was getting low on the yarn with it over three feet long. I tried undoing 10 rows and tried increasing it faster but it still isn't turning out to good. Next time I'll start from the larger end and work backwards. Even though I'd hate to do it since the smaller around rows where so hard to do I might unravel it to the first row and start over. My increasing was making the hat look wavy. If I use my first hat pattern but go backwards on it and start making the tail after I get back far enough it would probably look so much better.
