I lost my four hens to a &^%$#! weasel earlier this month (I didn t know what it was at first, then if followed my remaining girls right into my mudroom to kill them!) Everyone says, once I have one in my yard, it is there until I manage to kill it, which is next to impossible to do. So now I know that my portable run, covered with 1 inch chicken wire is essentially useless. But I am wondering if I also covered it with dog-proof screen if that would make it weasel resistant as well as larger thing proof (because of the chicken wire.) I have half inch hardware cloth in the windows, but I would probably line them with the screen, just because I am totally paranoid now. It is too bad it would keep them from enjoying most flying bugs, but anything to keep them safe. Has anyone tried this stuff? I know it is great for dogs, because I put it up years ago when my lab/pit cross kept going through the kitchen window and screen door, and it was enough to keep her in/out. But she never chewed it, just clawed. Any ideas, anyone? Or any fantastic weasel solutions, including but not limited to how to catch them?

We had weasels when I was a kid. My folks always predator proofed there coops from the outside. They used 1/2" hardware cloth around the bottom of the coop with 14" pieces pinned to the ground and attached to the cloth around the coop. Windows were cover from the outside around the trim and the doors had 1/4" re-bar pieces staple around the door that stuck out a couple of inches and had hardware cloth attached to the re-bar. It wasn't pretty but it kept the weasel out.

There is a new product called Tiger Wire. It is dog proof, Cat Proof and Critter proof. It is made of .023 stainless steel mesh with a resilient black powder coating. It cannot be cut with a razor knife. Tiger Wire is used in Screen Doors, Window Screens and as a Critter Guard. It is also used for screen rooms and "Catios". ( A safe and secure screen room for you pets) If you have small opets and want to keep them safe from coyotes, critters and hawks, then Tiger Wire is for you. We can make custom sized screen panels for just about any project. You may also purchase rolls of Tiger Wire for the Do It Yourself person.

OK TigerWireNow.
But is it as affordable as hardware cloth?

Sorry to Jack your thread Guideless. I side with using hardware cloth.
