Is It Normal For Female Turkeys to Puff Up? (Just curious)

Here’s my girl. Note- in my situation, this 15 week old hen is VERY dominant. I think she’s gender confused. I lovingly call her Bruce. As in Bruce Jenner. But that’s not her real name- ironically enough, my son named her after some skateboard brand or something- “kink”. Which is kind of funny, all things considered.

My turkey hen will puff up and strut when she is extremely angry at another bird. She did this a lot when my guinea grew up and became a little a-hole. One day the guinea decided to attack her and she finally snapped on him. I ended up having to remove him from her sight just so she would calm down. I've seen her strut at my silkie rooster but thankfully he is smart and doesn't attack her. Just watch your hens and they will point their tail at what is irritating them.

Thank you everyone for your responses!! I was looking for the same answer. Guess we have a girl! She was raised with 1 rooster chick and the other day they were fighting. Later, the roo was on her back. No wonder why she flew out of the pen to find herself a nest!!

I have two turkey hens too, and my one, the oldest named bailey, puffs up when i pick her up to move her if she's in the way. my youngest one, razle dazle, does not puff up at all. and we have no fertilized eggs.

Yes turkey hens can puff up or worse when they are not happy about what is going on. If you tried to pick up one of my hens she would strike like a snake to bite you.
