I’m trying to get rid of an old bag of layer feed. Not expired, just old. I was thinking of putting it in a bird feeder for the wild birds, so it wouldn’t go to waste. I would only fill the feeder once a week. Would the added calcium in the layer feed be bad for the wild birds?

I agree. It's not how much is in one bite, it's how many grams total they get all day and even that is averaged over several days. As long as it is offered in moderation there should not be any problems. So wait a few days between when they empty it and you refill it or alternate with other bird feed.

Alright, thanks. I’ll cut it with scratch and sunflower and fill it once a week. Usually gets emptied in 2-3 days.

Not to mention, a wild birds calcium requirements may be very different than our chickens. As long as it's not the only thing they eat, along with the other nutritious stuff thats in there, I can't see how it'd hurt them. See if they'll even eat it, looking different than seeds and all.
