Hey friends,
We have two Black Jersey Giants pullets from our local feed store. They are 6 weeks old. One has tail feathers like all of the rest of the hens and the other has pointy tail feathers. I don’t see much difference in the combs but am a total newbie and could be over thinking. I know the JG are slow developing and time will tell! Opinions?

I don't see anything that says cockerel yet, but you are right, they are a slow to develop breed. So the best bet is to wait a while and try again.

At 6 weeks (reported age by op), saddle and hackle feathering is not gender differentiated.

I guess I’m waiting to see! Either way I am cool. I just noticed that Millie has obviously different tail feathers.

Random update. Still too early too tell much. I am noticing the chicken in question is getting more light colored feathers on her (?) head and neck while the other JG is staying darker. I’ll post new pictures soon.

Ok, here is that picture of her light colored feathers. Is it too early to see the beginnings of where spurs will be? I could be wrong but it looks like little dots on her legs starting where the spurs would be if they were coming. Unless it’s way too early to tell that still and I’m looking to hard. Experts?
