Hi everyone, I’m wondering if my rooster is an Araucana or a mix of something? He is supposed to be pure bred but he doesn’t have the tufts sticking out the sides. He does make a completely different sound to the other chooks

This is a rooster though? All photos I found online the roosters had a bit of a tail?Araucana are supposed to be rump-less. Yours must be mixed with other breeds

It depends where you are because standards differ. In the UK Araucanas have tails. See e.g. https://poultrykeeper.com/chicken-breeds/araucana-chickens/This is a rooster though? All photos I found online the roosters had a bit of a tail?
I second thisPer another thread, OP is in Australia, where Araucanas have small crests, beards, and tails. The Australian standard does not call for tufts: http://www.openpoultrystandards.com/Araucana
Based on the varieties listed on that page, unless I overlooked one, I don't see a variety that exactly matches the bird in the original post. I would assume he's either a very leaky black or a mix of two varieties of Araucana. Aside from plumage coloring, he matches the standard well, so I don't think he's a mix with another breed.
That’s a good resource. Thank you for the share. I’ll have to remember to post that I’m in Australia for future questions.Per another thread, OP is in Australia, where Araucanas have small crests, beards, and tails.
