Is my Mallard a Hybrid?

During mating season the drakes plumage will molt from the brown you usually see on females, to the iconic green and white you typically see in pictures. He's not a juvenile, so do you think he could be a hybrid? Or is there some other reason?

This is normal and will happen every year. Most breeds do it, in fact, aside from those that don't have any sexual dimorphism in their colors.

Yeah, I just find it a bit strange that he hasn't molted into the breeding plumage yet. Is it because he's already done so and is just molting back to his regular colors?
