Is she likely ok?

Hi! I have a one year old laying buff hen that has been in the nesting box for hours, usually they are all done laying for the day by 3 or 5 at the latest. I noticed her there around 6 and it's 10. All others are on roosts for the night. She ate sunflower seeds from my hand, so that seems like a good sign. Think she's just broody? How do I know if something is wrong? Thanks! 😊

Not all broodies show the same signs with pancake-ing and hissing, but if she's insisting on sitting in the nest all night (and isn't getting bullied off the roost) and returns to the nest quickly if you remove her during the day, she's likely broody.

You can also check her belly to see if there's a bald patch on her belly, that's another sign of broodiness.

Thank you, she's putting in some long hours. Do I need to take food and water to her? We don't have a rooster and I'm not set up for chicks or I'd put a few under her.
