I am still learning. I actually have a question. Do you think this cockerel/roo [5 weeks old] is considered a Cuckoo based on the photos? Many thanks in the advance!

I am including the 5 weeks old vs day 1 old photos just in case if you want to take a look.

It could be cuckoo or a partridge, but I'm leaning partridge as I don't see the white dot on its head in your first picture, and when mine were hatched (didn't get any great early pictures as they had two hens for mothers) it was obvious which ones would be cuckoo. Yours does have the markings though of cuckoo.

You won't know sex for sure until they are around 3 months, sometimes not until 4 months. I've had silkies I wasn't positive about until they were nearly 5 months old.

A cuckoo chick about two weeks old.

But this little chick that was mostly solid like yours...

Turned into a silver partridge.

Regardless, I think you're going to have a gorgeous silkie!

Wow! This is super helpful and I absolutely love your Silver Partridge Silkie and so pretty. However, I forgot to mentioned that my chick is DNA Sexed by blood sample and that’s how I found out the gender. At first, I thought he was a Black at few days old but definitely interesting to me!

Here is another dna sexed pullet whom I named Wednesday because she was hatched on that day, hahaha and of course, gotta luv the addams family heh! anyways when she was hatched and she looked like lavender (self blue) but then 2 weeks old she finally got her first black spots…that’s how i could tell she’s a splash. here’s a pic of her!

and another 5 weeks old partridge (i am guessing blue partridge but i could be wrong)…that’s why i couldn’t decided on “cuckoo” or just blue for the first picture.

I added a correct picture of partridge at 5 weeks old and the above photo was 4 weeks old or so. Sorry about that! :)
