I have definitely assisted to early before and still was able to get it hatched. I have seen them hatch a day or two apart even when they started incubating at the same time. If your gut tells you to open it, then you may want to. If you do go ahead with it, only open the shell slightly in the air cell to see what is going on. If there is veins on the internal sack, stop there.

Hatching can be quite a challenge with ducks. There are a lot of variables that go into it.

Ok. If you want you can always do a safety hole, and that won't really have any negative effects.
